Become A Tutor

Nearly one in five Illinois residents struggle with basic math, reading, or English. They are parents, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. Project READ provides free tutoring service to adult learners who seek to improve their basic reading, writing, math, and English skills. This program is made possible by volunteers who give their time to improve the quality of life for hundreds of people in our community. Help us support the hundreds of adult learners we serve each year by joining our community of volunteers.

We are now training new tutors online and facilitating online tutoring instruction. Anyone 17 years of age or older with a High School Diploma or Equivalence, and knowledge of basic math, reading, and English can sign up to become a tutor.

When you become a tutor, Project READ staff will provide you with the educational materials needed for tutoring, help you make lesson plans, and give you ongoing support.
