Parkland College is pleased to partner with the Illinois Community College Board to provide our community with the Support for Workforce Training scholarship program. Take a few moments to explore how SWFT funding can help you obtain career training in high-demand,  high-paying industries.

What is Support for Workforce Training?

SWFT is a workforce training scholarship that provides funding and supports for career certificates at Parkland College. These carefully selected certificates provide practical training and rich experiences to prepare you for entry into high-paying industries. Certificate offerings can also lead to continued education for growth in several career pathways should you choose to continue your education at Parkland College or elsewhere.

Who is eligible for SWFT?

SWFT is a competitive scholarship program at Parkland College with eligibility requirements. Applicants must:

  • Reside in the Parkland service area
  • Be 18 and over
  • Be a Parkland student in good standing
  • Be ready to attend classes and complete all SWFT requirements
  • Complete any required certification exams
  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Commit to finding employment upon completion of your program
  • A high school credential is not required to be a part of the program.

While each application is given individual consideration on a first-come, first-served basis, eligibility preference is given to those who meet at least three of the following criteria:

  • Black/African American
  • Female
  • High Poverty Census Tract Address in Parkland service area
  • Low-wage Workers (Under $19 per hour)
  • Unemployed/Underemployed
  • High Financial Need
  • Formerly Incarcerated
  • No HS diploma or GED

What support does SWFT provide?

SWFT is a competitive scholarship and student support program at Parkland College with eligibility requirements. Those accepted to the SWFT program may receive:

  • Tuition and fee waivers
  • Stipends
  • Books and supplies
  • Pro-active academic advising
  • Career Services including job search assistance
  • Employability skills training
