Short-term training (icaps)

Parkland College Adult Education provides short-term training designed for students to enter career pathway programming. Students who complete their program earn a college credential that will enable them to enter the workforce as an entry-level professional in that field. The college credential students earn are stackable and count towards a related Associates degree. Testing is required for ICAPS enrollment to determine student readiness for credit-bearing courses.  ICAPS is the state of Illinois' Integrated Career and Academic Preparation System.

Current ICAPS Programs

Industrial Technology (Welding)

Certificate: Industrial Welding

Credit Hours: 16 (accumulated through 6 classes)

The Industrial Welding Certificate prepares graduates for entry-level work as welders in the industry. This program is designed to cover the necessary components for students to test for AWS D1-1 Certification upon completion.   • Built-in supports: support class, welding facility tutoring and assistance
  • Continuous ESL support for non-native speakers
  • Continuous support for completion of GED or HiSET exams
  • Assistance with obtainment of funding (FAFSA, WIOA, and grants)
  • Transition support for career readiness or education advancement
  • Hands-on training in an American Welding Society accredited test facility
Information Technology (Networking Administration & Support)

Certificate: Computer Foundations

Credit Hours: 17 (accumulated through 5 classes)

Cover the basics of Windows and Linux operating systems, PC repair, and basic networking. Successful completion will prepare a student for entry-level PC support positions. Students who complete this program and are looking to "stack" this credential may be interested in pursuing Parkland's Networking Administration and Support A.A.S degree. Want to learn more?   • Built-in supports: support class, computer lab tutoring, Computer Technology Center lab help
  • Continuous ESL support for non-native speakers
  • Continuous support for completion of GED or HiSET exams
  • Assistance with obtainment of funding (FAFSA, WIOA, and grants)
  • Transition support for career readiness or education advancement
  • Laptop loans (when available/if necessary)
