Parkland College Career and Technical Education to Host Free Workshops

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Parkland College Career and Technical program is inviting high school students to explore technology driven careers Friday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshops include lunch. High school students will experience hands-on learning for Land Surveying/Construction Management and Automotive Technology.

The Land Surveying/Construction Management workshop will give students the opportunity to experience on the job tasks. Students will build walls for a small shed using multiple tools and modern equipment. They will also work with the surveying instruments to map an area and use GPS to accurately mark the location of the shed to be placed on the ground. This workshop is made possible by the following sponsors Farnsworth Group, Clark-Dietz, and Chastain & Associates. Students may register at parkland.edu/survcon.

The Automotive Technology workshop will allow students to participate in a variety of jobs that will be set up at four different stations. Current faculty will guide the students through the workshop in the Parkland College Parkhill Applied Technology Center. Students will receive hands-on learning for engine diagnostics and scan tool usage, along with general hand tool usage and identification. Register at parkland.edu/auto.

This is a great opportunity for students who are genuinely interested in the growing career fields of Land Surveying/Construction Management and Automotive. Students may register now for the workshops, which have limited seating and require active student participation. Students must complete a safety release form here as they will use power tools, and they must bring the form with them to Parkland on the day of the workshops.
