Parkland College's spring concert season opens April 17 with a concert from the Parkland Jazz Combo.

Parkland Second Stage Theatre
The Parkland Jazz Combo, directed by Professor Kevin Hart, will perform from the following selections: "Dancing in the Dark" by Arthur Schwartz/Howard Dietz; "Days of Wine and Roses" by Henry Mancini; "Funk In Deep Freeze" by Hank Mobley, arranged by Tim Holl; "How High the Moon" by Morgan Lewis and Nancy Hamilton; "I Only Have Eyes for You" by Harry Warren and Al Dubin; "If You Could See Me Now" by Tad Dameron; "I'll Remember April" by Gene de Paul, Patricia Johnson, and Don Raye; "Jive at Five" by Harry Edison and William Basie; "Little B's Poem" by Bobby Hutcherson; "Look to the Sky" by Antonio Carlos Jobim; "Morning Mist" by Chris Boardman, transposition and arrangment by Kevin Hart; and "Trail of Suds" by Sam Crain.

Harold and Jean Miner Theatre
The Parkland Orchestra, directed by Dr. Rodney Mueller, will perform "St. Anne (Our God, Our Help in Ages Past)" by Emma Lou Diemer; "Symphony No. 2 in B minor" by Alexander Borodin; "Jane Eyre: Fantasy Overture" by Tracey R. Rush; and "The Typewriter" by Leroy Anderson.
Director Dr. Jonathan Beckett will lead the Wind Ensemble in performing "When the Morning Stars Sang" by James Curnow and "In Flight" by Samuel R. Hazo.
The Parkland Concert Band, directed by Dr. Matthew Dixon, will perform two selections from "Lincolnshire Posy" by Percy Aldridge Grainger (Movement 2, "Harkstow Grange," and Movement 5, "Lord Melbourne"); "Highlander" by Carl Strommen; and "Enigma Variations" by Edward Elgar, scored for band by Earl Slocum.

Unitarian Universalist Church, 309 West Green St., Urbana
The Parkland Guitar Ensemble, directed by Dr. Young Kim, will perform "Arabesque No. 1" by Claude Debussy; "Were You There" (and African American Spiritual); and "Quiet Nights and Quiet Stars" by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
The Parkland Chamber Singers, directed by Frank Gallo, will perform the traditional spiritual "Like a River in My Soul," arranged by Tim Osiek; "Shout Glory" by Byron Smith; and "1000 Beautiful Things" by Annie Lennox, arranged by Craig Hella Johnson.
