Music ensembles to begin winter concert season in November
Parkland College's holiday concert season opens November 21 with a concert from the Parkland Jazz Combo. All concerts are free and open to the public.

The Parkland Jazz Combo, directed by Professor Kevin Hart, will perform selections by Jimmy Smith, Tad Dameron, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Paul Desmond, Edgar Sampson, Jimmy Van Heusen, and more!
"Celebrating the Season," A Joint Concert by the Chamber Singers and Guitar Ensemble
Saturday, December 3, 3 p.m.
Harold and Jean Miner Theatre
The Parkland Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Franklin Gallo, will perform "Sing Gently" by Eric Whitacre; "And the Glory of the Lord" by George Frideric Handel from Messiah; and "Children, Go Where I Send Thee," An African American Spiritual, arranged by Kevin Phillip Johnson, rap crafted by Ayana Davis.
Director Dr. Young Kim will lead the Guitar Ensemble in performing "Búðarvísur" by Emil Thoroddsen; "Toy for Two Lutes" by Thomas Robinson; "Were You There," An African American spiritual; and "What Child Is This" (Greensleeves), a traditional English folk song.

The Parkland Concert Band, directed by Dr. Matthew Dixon, will perform "Greensleeves," arranged by Alfred Reed; "A Hanukkah Festival," arranged by Chris M. Bernotas; and "A Most Wonderful Christmas," arranged by Robert Sheldon. The Concert Band brass quintet will perform "Jingle Bells" by James Pierpont and arranged by Warren J. Wernick; "O Chanukah O Chanukah," arranged by Jayan Nandagopan; and "Silent Night" by F.X. Gruber, arranged by Stewart Schuele, among others.

Dr. Rodney Mueller will direct the Parkland Orchestra in performing "Frandole" from L'Arlesienne Suite No.2; "Stille Nacht," recorded by Manheim Steamroller arranged by Chip Davis and Calvin Custer; "Glorious Sounds of Christmas" featuring "Joy to the World," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Away in a Manger," and "Angels We Have Heard"; "Carol of the Bells: Ukrainian
Christmas Carol" by Leontovich-Wilhousky, arranged by Richard Hayman; "Concert Suite from The Polar Express" by Alan Silverstri and Glen Ballard, arranged by Jerry Brubaker; and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" by Vince Guaraldi and Lee Mendelson, arranged by David Pugh.
The Parkland Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jonathan Beckett, will perform "A Celebration of Christmas" (medley) by Floyd Werle; "Christmas Fancies" by James Curnow; "Emmanuel Variants" by Robert E. Foster; and "My Favorite Things" by Richard Rodgers, arranged by Robert Buckley.
