Parkland College Ensembles Continue Fall Concert Season This Month

The Parkland Jazz Combo and Orchestra will perform in November.

Parkland College's fall concert season continues into November with two concerts.

On Monday, November 18, the Parkland Jazz Combo will perform at 7 p.m. at the Second Stage Theatre. Their selections include "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" by Manning Sherwin and Eric Maschwitz, arranged by Frank Mantooth; "Cry Me a River" by Arthur Hamilton; "Fly Me to the Moon" by Bart Howard arranged by Frank Mantooth; and "In Walked Bud" by Thelonious Monk.

The group will also perform "Little Sunflower" by Freddie Hubbard; "Look to the Sky" by Antonio Carlos Jobim arr. Kevin Hart; "Out of Nowhere" by Johnny Green and Edward Heyman; "Povo" by Freddie Hubbard; "September in the Rain" by Harry Warren and Al Dubin; "Sidewinder" by Lee Morgan; and "Sugar" by Stanley Turrentine.

Prof. Kevin Hart will direct the performance.
 
The Parkland Orchestra will present a joint concert, "Cartoon Classics," with the Urbana High School Orchestra, directed by Tamra Gingold, on Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at the Urbana High School Auditorium in Urbana.

Director Dr. Rodney Mueller will lead the orchestra in performing many selections. These include "Hungarian Dances Nos. 5 and 6" by Johannes Brahms, arranged by Albert Parlow; "The Barber of Seville Overture" by Gioachino Rossini, edited by Clark McKalister; and "William Tell Overture" by Gioachino Rossini edited by William Ryden and Jack Ranney.

The group will also perform "Dance of the Comedians from The Bartered Bride" by Bedrich Smetana arranged by Hugo Riesenfeld; and "Die Fledermaus Overture (The Bat)" by Johann Strauss Jr. edited by Tom Kennedy.
