Parkland Trustees Approve New Public Safety Contract

Parkland's Board of Trustees have approved a new public safety contract at the monthly meeting.

Parkland College's Board of Trustees accepted the college's fiscal audit and a new contract for its public safety officers at the board's monthly meeting Wednesday.

Vice President for Administrative Services/CFO Chris Randles and representatives from Forvis Mazars (formerly Forvis) presented the board with the FY24 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) audit, which indicated that the college was in a sound fiscal position and in compliance with federal regulations.
 
Board members also heard updates on Summer 2024 and preliminary Fall 2024 enrollments from Kristin Smigielski, dean of enrollment, and updates related to Parkland's Support for Workforce Training (SWFT) and associated state Workforce Equity Initiative grant-funded programs from Alicia Beck, senior director of workforce development.
 
Trustees then approved a three-year bargaining agreement between Parkland College and the Parkland College Public Safety Officers Association Local 173 through June 30, 2027.

In other business, trustees approved:

    • a Ford F-150 lightning electric vehicle from Bob Ridings, Taylorville, Ill., $62,998
    • a Toyota Prius Prime PHEV from Toyota of Danville, Tilton, Ill., $43,979
    • wide in-ground vehicle lifts from Automotive Equipment Sales & Service, Pana, Ill., $49,716
  • the purchase of:
    • an overhead tube crane system from Central Illinois Xray, Bloomington, Ill., $132,920
    • Veeam for M365 software from CDW, Vernon Hills, Ill., $87,150
    • used 2023 Lincoln Aviator Hybrid from Shields Auto Group, Rantoul, Ill., $50,566
    • professional support services and consulting services from Ferrilli, East Haddonfield, N.J., $45,000
  • the filing of grant applications:
    • National Institutes of Health (NIH): National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Bridges to the Baccalaureate Research Training Program—Parkland-Illinois Transfer Student Research Training Program (PI-Bridge)
  • funds awarded to Parkland from external sources:
    • Secretary of State (SOS) Illinois State Library (ISL): Adult Volunteer Literacy Grant
    • Illinois Community College Board (ICCB): FY25 Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act (Direct Allocation)
