Parkland College to Introduce Women's Cross Country and Half Marathon in Fall of 2024
The Cobras will compete at the NJCAA Division II level in Women's Cross Country and Half Marathon
Champaign, Ill.– Parkland College and the Parkland College Athletic Department are proud to announce that the Cobras will be adding Women's Cross Country and Half Marathon to its list of sports in the fall of 2024. Parkland will compete at the NJCAA Division II level in Women's Cross Country and Half Marathon.
This is the first adjustment in the sports offered by the Parkland College Athletic Department since Women's Cross Country was removed in 2000 and men's and women's soccer was added. The Parkland College Athletics Hall of Fame holds one former women's cross country runner, Jodi Huddlestun Clark, who was the NJCAA Division II National Champion in 1999 with the Cobras.
"We are excited to increase opportunities for female student-athletes to excel at Parkland College," Vice President for Student Services Michael Trame said in a statement. "Women's cross country is a popular, successful sport in the District 505 high schools. We hope this new program will attract talent from local District 505 high schools to join the Parkland Cobras family and our vibrant campus community."
