Airport Housing Parkland College Aviation Institute Receives Top Honor

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Parkland College's Institute of Aviation is excited to learn that its flight training location, the University of Illinois' Willard Airport, has been named the 2023 Primary Airport of the Year by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The announcement came during the Illinois Public Airports Association Fall Conference on Monday. Willard Airport was selected because of its accomplishments, including an outstanding partnership with IDOT and a strong commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. 

Since 2014, the Parkland College Institute of Aviation has been located at Willard Airport, teaching industry-leading flight training skills to the pilots of tomorrow. Willard Airport is a class C airspace with radar approach control, and the institute's facility houses classrooms, student offices, various flight simulators, and an air fleet.
