Explore majors, tour campus, speak with campus representatives
Parkland College will hold its annual Fall Open House, including all of its Health Professions programs, Friday, Nov. 1 from noon to 2 p.m. starting in the campus's Student Union.
Designed for high school students, parents of college-bound students, and community members, the open house allows visitors to tour the campus; have their questions answered from admissions, financial aid, and counseling representatives; and explore Parkland's majors, student life, and support services. Breakout presentations on financial aid and the Pathway to Illinois program will also take place during the event.
Popular demonstration labs and exhibits at the open house will include:
For those interested in criminal justice or forensic science, the Forensic Science Lab in Room X104 will be open for public viewing from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The science behind criminal investigation is more challenging and satisfying than popular media portray. Students can view the tools of the trade, and an instructor will be on hand to talk about the chemistry of it all.
A solo art exhibition, "Jessica Gondek: Enterprising Machines" will be open in Parkland's Giertz Gallery from noon to 2 pm.
A hands-on drone session from 12:30 to 2 pm, a collision repair lab from noon to 1 p.m. and a motorsport lab from 1 to 2 p.m. will allow visitors a great chance to check out these Parkland technical training options in greater detail.
An accompanying Health Professions Open House will take place in two locations. Department programs including Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, and Veterinary Technology will be featured in the main campus's L wing. Respiratory Care faculty will also demonstrate their equipment, with a chance for guests to try it out. The department's Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service, Massage Therapy, Medical Assisting, Nursing Assistant, Occupational Therapy, and Practical Nursing programs will be featured at Parkland's H wing, located in the Parkland on Mattis complex at 1309 N. Mattis Ave., Champaign. Events at the H wing will include demonstrations of the birthing simulator at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
