Call for Entries: AROUND THE BLOCK IV: Artists from our Neighborhood 
Exhibit: June 5 to July 26, 2023 at Giertz Gallery at Parkland College
Reception: June 8, 5:30–7:30 pm; opening remarks with Lisa Costello and Kelly White at 6:15 pm
Closing Gallery Talk: July 26th, at 6:15 pm by Christopher Schneberger
 
Local artists are invited to submit their artwork to be featured in an exhibition at Giertz Gallery at Parkland College in collaboration with 40 North: Champaign County Arts Council. The exhibition will run from June 5 through July 26. This juried art exhibition features works selected by Christopher Schneberger. The deadline to submit artwork online is April 24
 
Giertz Gallery at Parkland College, in collaboration with 40 North: Champaign County Arts Council, presents Around the Block IV: Artists from Our Neighborhood, a juried community exhibition of regional artists. This exhibit is open to all artists 18 years and older residing in Champaign County and Counties within the Parkland College 505 District, including Ford, Coles, Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Iroquois, Livingston, Moultrie, McLean, and Vermilion. All work must be original and not previously exhibited at the Giertz Gallery. Work completed under an instructor's supervision is not eligible. Only works completed since January 2020 will be accepted. The juror will make all final determinations. 
 
Around The Block IV: Artist from our Neighborhood will be on exhibit from Monday, June 5 to Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Lisa Costello and Kelly White will give opening remarks at 6:15 pm during the reception on Thursday, June 8, 2023. There will also be a closing reception on Wednesday, July 26, featuring a gallery talk by Juror Christopher Schneberger at 6:15 pm.
 
Juror - Christopher Schneberger is an Assistant Professor of Photography and Gallery Director at Vincennes University. He also is a Chicago-based photographer and curator. He has curated a number of exhibitions and presented at the Society for Photographic Education's Midwest and Southeast conferences.
 
Lisa Costello, Director of Giertz Gallery at Parkland College, remarked, "We are delighted to host our fourth Around the Block exhibition. It will be wonderful to see the work in person again since our last one was online. The exhibition will include works by artists from our community and alums that reflect the caliber of creative flourish in mid-central Illinois. It will be a terrific survey of artists living in our area. I was pleased that Christopher Schneberger agreed to be our juror. He is an artist and gallery director with his finger on the pulse of contemporary art and the arts in Illinois." Costello said, "Working with 40 North, Champaign County's Art Council is helping us to get the word out, and they have been a valuable resource to our community. We always enjoy community-building with Kelly White, the executive director."

All events in the handicapped-accessible gallery are free and open to the public. Summer gallery hours are Monday–Thursday from 10 am–7 pm. 
 
Giertz Gallery is located on the Parkland College campus at 2400 West Bradley Avenue in Champaign, IL. To find the gallery, we suggest using the M6 parking lot on the north corner of the campus. Enter through door X-7, turn left, and follow the ramps uphill to the highest point of the first floor to find the gallery. The gallery windows overlook the outdoor fountain area.
