How to Apply

Applying for financial aid can be simple. The step-by-step guide below is meant to help you navigate through the process.

Step 1. - Apply to Parkland College

Apply to attend Parkland College as a degree seeking student. We will not be able to access your information from the federal government if you have not applied to Parkland. Students who are not classified as degree seeking are unable to receive aid through the FAFSA.

Step 2. - Create Your FSA ID

Before you can begin your FAFSA application, you will need to create a FSA ID. For dependent students (generally students under the age of 24), parents will also need to create an FSA ID.

Step 3. - Complete Your FAFSA

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list Parkland as the school you will be attending (federal school code 007118). The FAFSA should be filled out prior to each school year, as soon after October 1st as possible. Information needed to complete the FAFSA includes tax returns for students, their spouses, and parents of dependent students.

Step 4. - Respond to Requests for Additional Information

Once you have completed your FAFSA, it will take approximately one week before it enters our computer system. Should your FAFSA be chosen for verification, Parkland College will alert you via a paper letter mailed to your home address and an email to your student email account. If you are selected, all documentation must be received before your application can be processed.

Step 5. - Check Your Aid

After all required documentation is received, allow approximately 2 weeks for processing. You will receive an email to your student account once your electronic award letter is available.

*If you need help filling out the FAFSA, bring your tax return copies and any other paperwork to the Financial Aid Office. If you already have a FSA ID, bring it with you. Staff is normally available to help you between 8 am and 5 pm and we have computers you can use.
