Parkland Police Officers

Our officers have met all the training requirements and have been commissioned by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, and have been granted all the rights and privileges as conservators of the peace as outlined by state statute. 

Recruitment Process

To apply, please visit our employment website. As part of the application process, each applicant will provide:

  • An online Parkland College employment application.
  • Cover Letter
  • Resume
  • National Testing Network exam

The Parkland College Police Department offers testing services for the position of police officer through National Testing Network, Inc. To schedule a test, go to National Testing Network, select Law Enforcement and sign up for the Parkland College Department. Please note: you must first submit an online application via Parkland's employment opportunities website.

What to expect at the National Testing Network website:

  • Completion of the application process.
  • Detailed information about the testing process.
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests at Front Line Test.  
  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays.
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment. 

Parkland College participates in the NTN testing fee waiver program.  For information on getting your testing fee waived, email Sergeant Somphon Penland at spenland@parkland.edu. There are no requirements for a waiver.

Upon completion of the entry level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to Parkland College Police Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on the department's eligibility list.

Salary & Benefits

The starting salary for a Parkland College Police Officer is $50,960.44. Upon release of the Field Training program a probationary officer will be eligible to sign up for overtime and receive longevity step increases of $1,500 after completion of two (2) years, $2,000 after completion of four (4) years, $2,000 after completion of six (6) years. Parkland offers a variety of benefits to Police Officers, including no monthly insurance premiums for single or family coverage, paid time off, and tuition waivers for employees and dependents.
