National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines an internship as a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional workplace setting (across in-person, remote, or hybrid modalities).

How to Find an Internship

Searching for an internship is very similar to searching for a job. There are a variety of ways to find internship opportunities such as using online job boards, networking with professionals in your field, and visiting Career Services.

During and After the Internship
Internships can last from 8–16 weeks, so be sure to make that time count! Consider the following tips during and after your time as an intern:
  • During the internship ask thoughtful questions and build strong relationships with your colleagues.
  • After the internship, reflect on what you learned, update your resume with new skills and experiences, send thank you notes to your mentors, and stay connected for future opportunities.
