The Miser

Written by: Molière
An Actors' Studio Production
Directed by Mike O'Brien

Populated by some of Molière's most memorable characters, The Miser stands as one of the greatest comic masterpieces of all time. Full of misunderstanding, revelations, double-dealing servants, and thwarted lovers, this classic, over-the-top comedy is Moliere at his best. The Miser centers around the age-old conflict of love versus money. The miser of the title is the elderly Harpagon, a wealthy man who thinks his children cost him too much money and must be married off. He finds an old man who won’t demand a dowry for his daughter, and a rich widow for his son. Unfortunately for Harpagon, the kids have already fallen in love with penniless servants.

The miser’s obsession with money spells disaster for everyone around him until a last-minute secret unites the couples in true love.
