Fine & Applied Arts Degrees and Certificates
At Parkland College, you’ll have the option to transfer to a four-year arts program with our Associate in Fine Arts or Associate in Arts degree, or start your career sooner with an Associate in Applied Science or one of our many certificates. Visit the department of Fine and Applied Arts to learn more about your options.
The Giertz Gallery hosts two annual juried art and visual communication design student exhibits. These juried exhibits highlight work completed by students in the current academic year. Parkland Art faculty jury the shows and select the most imaginative, inspiring, distinctive, innovative, unusual, and memorable pieces for display in the gallery. Local industry professionals are invited to judge the show and select the awards. Parkland College may purchase selected pieces to become part of its permanent art collection for display on campus.
Lectures & Gallery Talks
Exhibits at the gallery usually include an opening night discussion of the art in the collection. Check out our Exhibition Calendar for more information.
"For Art's Sake" on PCTV
Giertz Gallery’s "For Art's Sake" television series includes gallery interviews and talks highlighting artists, art issues, and exhibitions. Typically taped in the Gallery, the episodes feature artists, art historians, and educators discussing their passion for art and their work in the art gallery. This show regularly airs on the Parkland College Television Station, PCTV. A copy of each episode is also available at the Parkland College Library; some are current episodes that discuss recent exhibitions and others serve as archives completed as far back as the 1980s.
