Parkland College
Student Government

The governing body of the Student Association of Parkland College is an active and responsible Student Government (Senate). Student Government administers student affairs and acts on behalf of the student body.

The purpose of Student Government is as follows:

Students of Parkland College are elected to Student Government in campus-wide elections each semester. All students may be eligible to be candidates for their Student Government. Students are elected to the office of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and senator (ten elected). Elections are held in the Fall and Spring Semesters.

The Student Government exercises all legislative functions of the student body and implements legislation enacted by the Senate. The presiding office of Student Government is the president. The president of Student Government has veto rights over the Senate, but the Senate can override a presidential veto by two-thirds affirmative vote of the body.

The ten senators elected to office shall be aware of the needs and interests of the student body and shall be the spokespersons for the students at Student Government meetings.

All students may be eligible for Senate posts and may serve as a director or member of a board or committee. For further information and job descriptions, contact the Office of Student Government, X159 or Director of Student Life, X152.
