Naperville native Christina Beatty loves how chemistry manages to “bring to life something abstract; we can’t see atoms and molecules, but they do such neat things!” It’s no wonder that she lists becoming a chemistry professor at Parkland in 2006 as one of her proudest moments. Were she not teaching, however, Christina would work with a therapeutic horseback riding program, for horses and music are among her all-time favorite interests.
You might find Christina, who is inspired by viewing nature, exercising in the great outdoors at Urbana’s Meadowbrook Park, or dreaming she were back in Hawaii, a favorite vacation spot. How does she eat her M&Ms? “Two at a time, same color, on one each side of the mouth.” Hmmm…a human ‘atom’ smasher?
