What does Parkland 2008 Outstanding Staff Award (Gold) winner Jan Thom love most about her job? It’s the “ability to use the knowledge I’ve gained at Parkland and in life to help students.” The hard-working Champaign native says she is inspired to find that same spirit of service in her coworkers as well.
Jan enjoys reading, movies (“To Kill a Mockingbird” is among her favorites), and spending time with family. If you like to go “anywhere green in the mountains” for vacations, don’t be surprised to find her there! It’s Cubs over Cards for her (“I always root for the underdog”). She offers students this advice: “take responsibility for your own actions and inaction.”
