Meet Faces of Parkland

Ruba Al-Arian

Ruba Al-Arian
Hometown: Cairo, Egypt
Major: Political Science
Interests: Reading, going out, tennis

Ruba’s dream career is becoming a politician or political journalist. This led her to take political science as a major at Parkland College.

Besides of the diversity of the students, Ruba enjoys studying at Parkland because of the size of the classes. “The classes are small and my major is never boring,” she said. “I also improved my English and learned a lot about other cultures from different people.”

This friendly girl is very active in student clubs; she took the role as president of the International Student Association at Parkland, and has also held membership in other student clubs like the English Conversation Club and Muslim Student Association. Ruba is a social person;  her biggest passions are to help people and do something to help her country. Since she is a political person, her biggest dream is to "free Palestine and to fix the corruption in Egypt."

When she finishes her studies at Parkland, Ruba plans to continue her studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
