Major: Highway Construction Career Training Program
Interests: Working with his hands
With a career goal of owning his own construction company, David Moore has found excitement and hope in completing Parkland College’s Highway Construction Careers Training Program.
“The quality of instructors, specifically Erin Smith and Chuck Baldwin, and being accepted into the program, have meant a lot to me,” the Danville native says. “I’ve also appreciated the convenience of balancing school, family, and work that going to Parkland provides.”
Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and administered by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), the HCCTP program helps increase the total number of minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects.
David has advanced his skills by taking other construction courses at Parkland in the meantime. “My favorite part has been hands-on training in building cabinets,” he says. He also plans to take business courses, to move even closer to his dream.
