Nathan Dickey
Hometown: Gibson City
Major: Aeronautical Engineering
Interests: Flying, Running, Playing Drums
Gibson City Melvin Sibley High School standout Nathan Dickey is no stranger to hard work and considers himself "driven". The Eagle Scout and GCMS Math Student of the Year (2009) comes to Parkland this fall with a dream of becoming an astronaut and an eye set to major in aeronautical engineering and transfer his Parkland credits to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. "When I pick a goal, I work tirelessly towards achieving it." Nathan says it is his dad who inspires him to "work hard and excel in everything I do, even if I do not particularly enjoy it."
There's no need to inspire Nathan to study aerospace, however: "I am constantly
learning new things about something I enjoy very much." He also appreciates "the helpfulness of Parkland’s staff and
advisors" and is proud to be a Parkland Trustees Scholar. (Trustee Scholars earn full tuition to Parkland as high school seniors graduating in the top 10 percent of their class.) If he’s not listening to the Foo Fighters, Audioslave, or Queens of the Stone Age, just to name a few favorites, you might also find Nathan reading from his favorite book—
The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe (did you expect anything else?).
