Zeiss Machine
The Planetarium machine is a model of the universe.
The Zeiss model M-1015 projects about 7600 simulated stars, the Sun, Moon and 5 planets onto a dome-shaped screen which is fifty feet across. Our projector was the first of this model to be installed in the world. You can think of the machine as presenting a "map" of the sky, projected onto the dome ceiling.
This arrangement presents a stunning, realistic view of the heavens as seen from Earth. Controls allow the program presenter to simulate the motions of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Sun and Moon. The planetarium can be set to show the sky as seen from any point on the Earth, and for any time for several thousand years into the past, or the future.
