The Kinesiologist
Kinesiology is the study of human movement. Although there are few job titles called “kinesiologist” someone with a degree or training in kinesiology may work in a number of fields relating to the human body, from medicine to sports and fitness to office ergonomics. Kinesiologists work as personal trainers at health clubs. They work in research laboratories studying the use of orthotics and prosthetics. They work as ergonomic consultants in office environments. They may be physical education teachers and coaches. They work in rehabilitation in medical settings and nursing homes. Some continue their education in professional fields, such as physiotherapy and chiropractic. The fascinating field of kinesiology has a wide variety of opportunities for all talents and interests.

Most people working in kinesiology fields will have achieved a bachelor’s degree or higher. Salaries vary widely depending on type of career and level of education. Average salary figures for kinesiology-related careers include:
• Illinois K-12 Teachers $41,545 (B.S.), $51,505 (M.S.) – salary increases with additional duties like coaching and summer school
• Athletic Trainers - $30,735 (B.S.), $38,589 (M.S.)
• Chiropractor - $65,330
• Physical Therapist - $57,330; PT Assistant - $36,080; PT Aide - $20,670
• Occupational Therapist - $51,990; OT Assistant - $36,660; OT Aide - $22,040
• Recreational Therapists - $30,500
• Coach - $27,880
