Campus student publication takes state honors

Prospectus News wins top awards at ICCJA conference

Parkland College's student-run campus news publication, Prospectus News, recently won first-place and third-place awards for outstanding Division II collegiate journalism from the Illinois Community College Journalism Association.

Prospectus News staffers were presented awards for writing and photojournalism since fall 2013 at ICCJA's annual spring conference on April 4 and 5. Two staff members and the staff at large received the following recognition for excellent work:

First Place Award, Photo Spread: Staff of Prospectus News (covering Pygmalion Music Festival, October 2013)
Third Place Award, Sports Photo: Makenzie Hryhorysak (taken of Parkland golfer Joe Powell at practice, Sept. 11, 2013)
Third Place Award, Feature Writing: Ernie Springer (for "Parkland PRIDE backs LGBT community," August 2013)

Parkland congratulates Publications Manager Sean Hermann, Production Supervisor JoJo Rhinehart, and the entire student-run Prospectus News staff for their hard work throughout the year and their well-deserved awards.
