Parkland College will celebrate construction on its new Fine and Applied Arts facility additions with a special event Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 4–7 p.m. in the college’s C4 parking lot, adjacent to the construction site.
As a highlight of the FAA Construction Celebration, in lieu of breaking ground, celebration attendees will be signing the I-beam that will be relocated in one of the new facilities during construction. The event will also feature music by the Parkland In Your Ear Band jazz ensemble (Thomas Wirtel, director) and college radio station WPCD-FM; ceramic sculpture demonstrations by Parkland faculty; and remarks by Parkland administrators. Refreshments will be provided.
The FAA addition project is part of Parkland’s Campus Master Plan and consists of a “Black Box” performing arts addition and a Visual Arts educational classroom addition. Both new additions will be located on the west side of campus, adjacent to the existing theatre. The addition of a black box theatre space will serve as a multifunctional space for music performances, rehearsal space for Parkland and community productions, and space for presentations. Completion of the facilities is expected for late summer 2014.
