Parkland Theatre will hold open auditions for the classic American comedy “You Can’t Take It With You” by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, on Saturday, Dec. 1, 1–5 p.m., at the theatre.
Callbacks, if needed, will be held later that day, at 7 p.m.
Director Joi Hoffsommer needs to fill a cast of 19 males and females, ages 18 and up, for this production. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Those auditioning should familiarize themselves with the play’s characters and relationships by reading the script beforehand. Character descriptions and other information can be found at

Kaufman and Hart’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy (1936) features the outrageous, idiosyncratic Sycamore family and its madcap pursuit of happiness. What happens when this family of free spirits clashes with a family of conservatives? This romantic, screwball comedy provides a great life lesson for all of us and will have audiences rolling with laughter!
All members of the community and Parkland/ U of I students are invited to audition; Parkland Theatre encourages diversity. Rehearsals will begin in January. Performances are February 21–March 3.
