LIBRARY RESERVES POLICY
Parkland Library collection materials, as well as instructor's personal or departmental educational materials may be placed on Reserve as a resource for students, in support of classroom instruction.
Instructors select and provide all Reserve materials and determine, in conjunction with Library staff, the restrictions to be placed on the circulation of Reserve materials. Articles/excerpted materials may be placed on Traditional and/or Electronic Reserve in conformity with current copyright laws/restrictions.
Overdue fines for Reserve items:
- The patron is responsible for the timely return of all items, whether or not any reminder or overdue notice is received from the library.
- When a reserve item is Overdue a $15.00 processing fee and the replacement cost of the item will be added to the patron's account.
- There is no grace period for overdue items.
- All charges are non-refundable.
Loan Periods and Renewal:
- Typically check out for 2 hours (for use within the Library only). Some materials, however, may be checked out for up to one week.
- Course Reserves cannot be renewed within 30 minutes of check-in. This policy insures maximum availability to all class participants.
Access:
Books, articles, and videos are located behind the Service Desk, where they are filed by course number (for example, ACC 101) and the name of the instructor. You will need to show your Parkland College ID card to use these materials.
Photocopiers are available. Copies are 10 cents per page. Copiers will take nickels, dimes, quarters, and one and five dollar bills. Sorry, the Library is unable to provide change.
Electronic Reserves are accessible through the online catalog. For off-campus access to them, students use their Parkland email login and password; faculty and staff use their Novell login and password.
Instructors:
If you would like to place an item on Reserve, please contact Pamela Colvin, at 217/351-2472 or pcolvin@parkland.edu, or fill out the necessary request form at the Service Desk or online at: Instructors' Reserve Request Form.
Please note: Reserve items should be personal copies or Parkland Library materials. Items from other libraries will not be put on Reserve.
Instructors who wish to check out an item already placed on Reserve by another instructor will need to seek the permission of the instructor who reserved the item.
IMPORTANT: The Library needs at least one week's notice to have an item ready for Reserve.
Copyright:
Obtaining appropriate copyright clearance is the responsibility of the instructor. You may visit the Copyright Clearance Center at http://www.copyright.com/ for convenient access to copyright permission information. Email the Library at Library@parkland.edu or call 217/373-3839 for the account information.
NOTICE WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
