Previously Enjoyed Books |
Located near the main entrance to the Library are carts of discarded books that may be purchased for a nominal charge. The money from the sale of these used books goes back into the Library budget and is used to buy new material. These discarded books are selected for withdrawing by our librarians in a process known as "weeding." Weeding is a way of removing worn, obsolete, unused, or outdated materials from the shelves. It is an important process that helps libraries maintain an active, working collection. Some of the factors that are used in selecting potential items for removal from our
collection are: Weeding is an on-going project, and new books are constantly being added to the "Book Sale" carts. Take a moment to browse the carts. If you don't find something that interests you today, look again next week. One of these days you'll likely find a book that you'll find helpful and interesting. Parkland instructors may be interested in knowing that the Library is also withdrawing older, unused slide sets from our Audiovisual Collection, and we are giving them to instructors to continue to use. Contact librarian Frances Drone-Silvers (ext. 2883 or through e-mail) for more information. |
