ее On May 11th, Lori Sprague gave a presentation about the history of Parkland College to the Champaign County Farm Bureau "Prime Timers." She illustrated her talk with slides from the College Archives’ photographic collection.
ее Ray Bial’s
newest book, A Handful of Dirt, has recently been published. His previously published book, One-Room School, has been selected an "Outstanding Book" by the Junior Library Guild.
ее Megan Lotts has been commissioned to paint four works this summer for the University of Illinois Newmark Collection Civil Engineering Department.
ее Attending the Illinois Cooperative Collection Management Program in Chicago was Frances Drone-Silvers. Presentations included "Periodical Use Studies," "Assessing Your Collection," and "Electronic Resource Usage Statistics." Frances also attended training at the Illinois Fire Service Institute Library.
ее Carol Gilbert
attended two workshops/seminars in May and June: "Professional Supervision Skills" and "The Essential of Managing the Front Desk: 180 Ways to Walk the Customer Service Talk."
ее In May, Julia Hough attended the 28th National LOEX Conference in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The theme of the conference was "First Impressions, Lasting Impact: Introducing the First-Year Student to the Academic Library."

Saturday Library hours will change with the start of the Fall semester. The Library will open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. This will give Saturday morning students an opportunity to use the Library when their Saturday classes are finished.

Audiovisual Services Clerk, Linda Baker, will retire July 31.  Linda has worked in the Library's AV Services department for more than 20 years.  The Library Staff extends our thank you to Linda for her work in AV Services, and we wish her a happy and peaceful retirement.  If you have a chance before July 31, stop in and say good-bye to Linda. 

 

Our new Technical Services/Electronic Resources Librarian is Cliff Bishop. Cliff is not new to Parkland Library, having worked almost four years as a Reference Librarian. Nor is Cliff new to the library community at large, having been employed in a variety of positions at the University of Illinois and Cornell University (among others). He has a Master's in English and American Literature from Cornell University, as well as a Master's in Library Science from Syracuse University. Cliff’s Technical Services responsibilities include acquisitions and cataloging, and in his role as Electronic Resources Librarian, Cliff oversees the Library webpage and manages the Library’s electronic resources. Cliff’s office is R-210, and he can be reached by phone at 351-2272.
