Focus On...     Feature Films

Would you like to watch Annie Hall again? Or see George C. Scott’s Academy Award-winning performance in Patton? Those films, and more, are available to check out in the Library. The Library’s Audiovisual Services department has over 400 "feature film" videos. Loosely defined, a "feature film" is a full-length entertainment film originally made for showing in a commercial theater. For a list of feature films in the Library’s collection, go to the Parkland Library catalog and search by subject using "feature films" in the search box. Anyone with a valid Parkland ID card may borrow our feature films for home viewing.

Some of our patrons may be interested in knowing that many of the feature films are closed captioned. "Closed captioned" films have on-screen, English sub-titles. Originally designed for the hearing impaired, many people who are learning English as a second language will find closed captioned films a help in their learning of English.

Some of the VCRs in the Library’s Audiovisual Services department are equipped for closed captioned viewing, and you may watch the films in AV Services. If you have the necessary device on your home television and VCR, you may check out these closed-captioned feature films and watch them at home. One way of searching for closed-captioned feature film videos follows:
  1. Go to the Library's catalog.
  2. Click "combination."
  3. Type "feature" in the first search box.
  4. Choose "subject" from the drop-down menu.
  5. Type "closed" in the next search box.
  6. Choose "notes" from the drop-down menu.
  7. Finally, click the "search" button.

And, of course, our Reference Librarians are available to help you search the Library’s catalog.

Happy viewing!
