 Keeping Your Library Up-to-Date

What do library staff do during those "lazy, hazy, crazy days" of summer? With fewer students and usually quieter times, we look for special projects which will improve information services.

This year the library staff updated the Reference Collection. (Yes, we still use those books! Not everything is on the 'Net!) Each librarian was assigned an area (Art, Literature, Science, etc.), and that person looked at every reference book in his/her area. The librarian made decisions about keeping the item, updating it with a newer edition or different title and

whether outdated items should be put in the book stacks or withdrawn (removed from the Library).

Once the librarians made their decisions, the Technical Services team went into action: deleting records from the computer for the items to be withdrawn, reprocessing those books being sent to stacks, and ordering the new editions and titles.

This project is continuing and has already resulted in more space in the Reference area and will ensure that you have up-to-date information next time you use these resources.
