At the Library

Staff Change
Congratulations and best wishes to Julia Hough, formerly a Parkland librarian for nearly 20 years.  Julia is now Coordinator of the Natural Sciences Testing Center, L161, 351-2552.  The Library's loss is indeed the Natural Science department's gain.  Thanks, Julia, for your many contributions to the Library, and good luck in the future!

Income Tax Forms
Parkland Library has a variety of income tax forms available for you to pick up and use to file your taxes.  The forms are located near the Circulation Desk.  The 2001 editions of Ernst & Young Tax Guide and J.K. Lasser's Your Income Tax are in the reference collection.  Additionally, tax forms may be downloaded from the IRS's website at http://www.irs.gov/forms_pubs/
index.html

Yahoo also lists likely links for federal tax forms:  http://taxes.yahoo.com/fedforms.html And if you are looking for state forms, Yahoo links to those as well:  http://taxes.yahoo.com/stateforms.html  Finally, the Library's homepage provides quick links to the Yahoo sites.

Online Catalog
Updated in December, the new version of the online catalog offers some great features for researchers! In the past you may have found it frustrating to have to go to the full record to find out the publication date of a book or to see if it was checked out.  Now, when you do a search, the brief record shows more information — title, author, date of publication, call number and availability.  If you need further details (publisher, number of pages, subject headings) you can look at the entire record with a click.
When you do look at a full record, the call number and availability information is now displayed to the right of the record — no more scrolling down to see if the item is checked out.
Do you ever wish you could just search for the latest materials or search just for videos on your subject?  The Set Limits button allows you to search for recent materials only, by specifying a date. Or you can limit the search to audiovisual materials only by clicking on Collection then on Audiovisual Room.  This will be a great help when you need a specific type of resource.  The Set Limits feature is a really neat option that offers you many choices in limiting your searches.
Check out our online catalog — we think you'll like it!
