Out and About

Raeann Dossett attended the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. This is ALA's yearly business and planning meeting. Also, Raeann has been elected to the board of directors of WEFT 90.1 FM, a community radio station.

Frances Drone-Silvers took an online course, "All Users are Local," through the Association of College and Research Libraries. This course focused on best ways for libraries to serve distance learners. Frances also attended SFX training at the CARLI office. SFX is a link resolver that will direct users to full text in Library databases. Additionally, Frances was the co-chair of the costume committee for Holy Cross School's production of "The Sound of Music."

Jill Coe attended several workshops offered through the College's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning: "Identity Theft," "Retention of African American Students," "Writing Letters of Reference." She participated in workshops offered by the Writing Center: "Using Research Databases" and "Prose Style: Sounding Smarter that You Are." Jill was a participant in CARLI's IUAG Circulation and Universal Borrowing Task Force Conference Call, "Does Your Patron Need a Time-out?"

Rena Moore participated in "Searching with FirstSearch," a workshop offered at Lincoln Trail Libraries System. This was an opportunity for hands-on training in effectively selecting and searching FirstSearch databases.

Anna Maria Watkin participated in the NILRC annual retreat at Allerton Conference Center in February. In March she attended the annual Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries conference in Bloomington, IL. She also attended the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio.

Nancy Bode took part in "OCLC Local Holdings Maintenance" training at Lincoln Trail Libraries System.

Cliff Bishop and Nancy Bode traveled to Kankakee Community College for the CARLI Voyager Update forum.

Cliff Bishop, Raeann Dossett, and Anna Maria Watkin attended the CARLI bibliographers' meeting in Bloomington.

Leah Broaddus is serving as chair of the PCA Diversity Committee.

Library staff also took advantage of the College's Wellness Fair and campus cultural offerings during Black History Month and the International Cultures Fair.

Farewell

Leah Broaddus, instruction librarian, will be leaving Parkland this summer. The Library staff wishes her all the best. We predict great things in this talented woman's future! Stay tuned for information about an informal farewell reception.
