Literary Legends
Live at the Parkland Theatre
The next two months will bring
opportunities to hear three outstanding and diverse authors at
the Parkland College Theatre, as the College partners with the
Champaign Public Library to present a grant-sponsored series of
author talks under the title "Literary Legends."
Renowned
authors Ernest Gaines, Walter Mosley and
Sherman Alexie will each present a free program for the
public at the Theatre. Each program will begin at 7 p.m. and
include a question and answer time followed by a book signing.
Gaines is author of the novel A
Lesson Before Dying, which is used in many Parkland reading
classes. He led off the series on Wednesday, April 26,
with a "sold out" appearance.
Mosley is the author of Devil
in a Blue Dress and other Easy Rawlins mysteries. He's
written nonfiction as well, most recently Life Out of Context.
Mosley's appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24.
Alexie will appear on Monday, June
12. His works include the novel Reservation Blues, the
screenplay for the acclaimed film Smoke Signals, and a
number of short stories.
Seating will be general admission.
Free tickets are required. For more information contact the
Champaign Public Library. This page also has information
about "Preview Book Discussions" being held at the public
library.
Read Them at the Library
As part of the grant that funded
these visits, Parkland Library has expanded our collection of
materials by and about the authors. Check out our catalog or ask
at the Information Desk about recently purchased books,
audiobooks, and DVDs.
This series
is made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State
Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State,
using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library
Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and
Technology Act (LSTA).
