Got Scores?
Want to sing "Defying Gravity?" Do you "wanna
be a producer?" Or perhaps you'd like to "Send
in the clowns?" You can sing or play all these
(and more) with new additions to the Parkland
Library collection.
In late 2005, the Parkland Library received a
grant to collect materials in musical theater,
through the CARLI (Consortium of Academic and
Research Libraries in Illinois) cooperative
collection management program. CARLI collection
grants are designed so that libraries work
together to create excellent statewide
collections in various subject areas. The CARLI
libraries belong to I-Share, so the materials
can be lent to students and faculty throughout
the state. The purpose of this particular grant
was to create a statewide collection of music
education resources to support students
preparing to be music teachers, current music
educators, and the general public with an
interest in music learning.
Parkland's role in the grant project was to collect scores (piano,
vocal and conductor), DVDs of musical
productions, and histories and compilations on
American musical theater. We had a lot of fun
selecting resources! Here's a selected list of
some of the materials purchased:
