Auto Repair Reference Center

The Library recently acquired access to the Auto Repair Reference Center, an automotive repair database from EBSCOhost. ARRC provides a wide array of information with an easy-to-search format within four main sections: Vehicles, Auto IQ, Car and Repair Tips, and Troubleshooting.

Auto Repair Reference CenterARRC’s main page is on the Vehicles tab and is a breeze to search. After selecting a vehicle year, make, and model, there is a choice of links that cover repair procedures, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, labor rates, specs, and maintenance intervals. Newer models, however, generally have more information available than older models.

Auto IQ offers two modes of searching, one with audio and the other without. Once you have selected your preferred version, you are taken to a screen with links to seven major systems. Many include explanatory video clips. Really helpful!

Car and Repair Tips contains a very large range of topics—far too many to be listed here. Depending on your need, you can find general as well as extremely specific information.

So how does one find this useful database? The Auto Repair Reference Center is available through the Library homepage: http://www.parkland.edu/library/ > Articles and Databases > Ebscohost > Auto Repair Reference Center.

Literary Reference Center

The Library is pleased to announce the addition of another new database from EBSCOhost, the Literary Reference Center. LRC contains information from major reference books and full-text articles from more than 300 literary journals, as well as the Bloom Series, and the entire content of another EBSCO product that many of you may remember, MagillOnLiterature Plus. In addition, several literary reference works are included, such as The New Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics, and the Continuum Encyclopedias of American, British, and Children’s Literature. Also included are more than 10,000 plot summaries, synopses and work overviews; 130,000 author biographies; 500,000 book reviews; 75,000 literary criticism articles; and over 11,000 classic and contemporary short stories.

Literary Reference CenterThe Literary Reference Center offers many interesting features. Among them is the ability to create a password-protected folder so that you can access saved items at a later date and link to a citation guide that provides assistance for the three most widely used style guides.

So whether you're enrolled in a literature or poetry class or you just enjoy reading, the Literary Reference Center is a good place to drop by!

Where is it? Start at the Library homepage: http://www.parkland.edu/library/ > Articles and Databases > Ebscohost > Literary Reference Center.

The Auto Repair Reference Center and the Literary Reference Center are accessible off-campus: students use your Parkland email login and password (faculty/staff use your Novell login and password) when prompted for identification. Stop by the Information Desk in the Library for a quick tutorial for these databases or just start using them from the Library, your office, or home.
