   Gabbard explores the role of African Americans in literature, music, and art. In particular, he is interested in the role of black culture in white American film.

   Two adult treatments of one of the most famous and mythical figures in African-American history. Both books are getting solid reviews, with the Larson getting more consideration from the scholarly press and the Clinton getting high marks for general readers.

The Hidden Cost of Being African American: How Wealth Perpetuates Inequality

   Co-author of 1997’s "Black Wealth, White Wealth," Shapiro continues his examination of racial inequality in wealth distribution. He pays particular attention to the concept of inequality passing from one generation to the next.

   Hooks considers many ways in which black men are viewed as well as how they view themselves. She discusses many negative stereotypes about black masculinity and the emotional isolation that follows.
