Get the Best of Both Worlds!

Want to combine the wealth of resources in WorldCat and the convenience of "do-it-yourself" requesting and "MyAccount" in ILLINET Online? You can! A new feature in WorldCat lets you link directly into the statewide ILLINET Online catalog, then place your request. This will send the item on its way faster than the ILL button (near the top of the WorldCat page). When you click the ILL button, there's a human intervention that has to happen before the request is actually made – so there's a delay. With the method below, your request is more immediate.
ILL
button

Click on the link "Search the catalog at your library" (highlighted in yellow below). This will take you into the ILLINET Online catalog where you may be able to request this item using your Parkland ID number.

This should provide faster delivery of your requested items. Of course, not everything is in ILLINET Online, so plan to use the Interlibrary Loan button or link for those items.

Another tip: when you see this . . .

local libraries

. . . it means the item is at the University of Illinois Library or Champaign Public Library or Urbana Free Library. (Click to see which one). Remember that your Parkland ID allows you to check out materials at the U of I. If you're in a hurry and do not want to wait for the item to be delivered to Parkland Library, you can go over and check out the item directly. Or if you have a public library card and need the item fast, you can make a quick trip to the one that owns the item.

Libraries have a long history of making their materials available to other libraries and their patrons. With computer technology it is easier than ever to track down the material that you need.
