Jill
Coe joined Parkland Library this fall as the new Access
Services Coordinator. She comes to us from the Public
Libraries of Saginaw, Michigan, where she held the position
of supervisor of the local history and genealogy collection
at the Hoyt Main Library. She carries a Master's of liberal
studies degree from Eastern Michigan University and
Bachelor's of science degree from Michigan State University.
She's worked for JSTOR (Journal Storage), an online
scholarly
archive, and was an adjunct instructor at Delta College
and Eastern Michigan University. Total wellness and taking an
interdisciplinary approach to life are among her interests.
Pat
Ziebart is
now a part-time librarian in Information Services, joining
the staff in August after graduating with a master's degree
from the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library
and Information Science (GSLIS). She completed a reference
practicum with us last semester and is enjoying her new
professional role (and creating wonderful library displays).
Pat is an active member and volunteer at Grace United
Methodist Church and a native of Champaign.

Rena
Moore, formerly Access Services
Coordinator,
began her new duties as Library Technical Assistant for
Acquisitions in July. Rena replaces Janet Wilkinson
who retired after working 23 years at Parkland Library.

Leah
Broaddus
serves on the Parkland College Association Curriculum
Committee and Diversity Committee. Jill Coe serves as
a member of the recently formed College ID Task Force
Committee, a group charged with examining the issues
regarding the conversion from Social Security number to
college ID numbers. Raeann Dossett has been appointed
to CARLI’s Electronic Resources Working Group. Frances
Drone-Silvers is the Library’s representative to the
Cross-Curricular General Education Assessment working group.
Anna
Maria Watkin serves as the vice chair-chair elect of the
Board of Directors for
CARLI (the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries
in Illinois). In August she was appointed to the College
Development Advisory Committee for grant development and to
the Parkland Art Gallery Advisory Board.
Nancy
Bode and Cliff Bishop attended Understanding
and Using MFHDs at the CARLI office in September. The
two also attended Fall Cleaning: Tools and Techniques for
Cataloging Maintenance, presented by the IUAG Consortial
Cataloging and Authority Control Committee of CARLI in
Springfield.
Virginia
Stout traveled to Springfield in September to
participate in the Reaching Forward South
Conference for Library Support Professionals. Sessions
included "Open Source Solution," "Weeding 101," and "How to
Deal with Unruly Patrons in Your Library."
Nancy
Jeckel attended the Second Annual Audio EBook Expo
One Book, Many Formats: The Magic of Multimedia in East
Peoria in September. It was sponsored by The Middle Illinois
Talking Book Center and the Alliance Library System and
provided an array of information about digital audiobooks,
ebooks, portable players, and online access.
Jill
Coe attended Introduction to Using Microsoft Access
to Create Reports from Voyager and Voyager Systems
Training at the CARLI office in Champaign. She also
participated in Parkland Connection training, a
workshop for student employee supervisors and the Identity
Theft Workshop in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and
Learning (CETL) on the Parkland campus. She also took part
in two of the College-sponsored Respectful Workplace series:
Safe Zone Part 1: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
Awareness, and Safe Zone Part 2: Ally Training.
Pamela
Colvin attended Focus on Student Learning,
Perspectives, Cultural Expectations in CETL.
Frances
Drone-Silvers in July took part in the ILLINET (now
CARLI) User's Advisory meeting at Heartland Community
College in Bloomington.
Raeann
Dossett and Anna Maria Watkin attended a
Coordinating Academic Support taskforce meeting in October.
They presented information about how librarians assist
students with everything from opening an email account to
interpreting an class assignment.
Linda
Lippi attended workshops in Excel 2003 at the Business
Development Center and a travel forms workshop at CETL.
Anna
Maria Watkin and Tod Treat, Dean of Academic
Services, attended the first CARLI membership meeting held
at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. The keynote
address was given by Kate Nevins executive director of
SOLINET. |

"Images
of England: Watercolor Painting on Location on Isle of
Wight" will be the first exhibit to be held in the new Art
Gallery Annex at the Library. The exhibit will feature work
from a recent trip led by Don Lake, art professor
emeritus. The show will run from November 18 through
December 6 and is open to the general public during Library
hours. A reception will be held in the Library on Tuesday,
November 22, 12 noon-1:30 p.m.
National Library Week
April 2–8, 2006
will
include the unveiling of the second Parkland Library READ
poster. More details to follow in the next newsletter.
Carpet
is Coming
The long
anticipated carpet replacement is planned for installation
after finals and during the winter break. The third floor
carpet replacement project is planned for 2006.
