GRANTS AWARDED
Parkland Library has received three cooperative collection development grants from the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI). The funds will be used to purchase materials in the areas of Musical Theatre, Multicultural Plays on video, and Coming Out Issues for Youth. Parkland librarians will work jointly with librarians from several other academic libraries to select and promote the materials purchased for each grant.
Champaign Public Library and Parkland College will be partnering on a "Libraries Leading the Way" grant. The LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant will be used to fund a program to bring nationally known authors, poets, and other literary figures to the community. The artists will share their work through discussions and other learning events. Parkland Library will collaborate with CPL on the collection development portion of the project and purchase materials to support the programmed events.

ILLINET ONLINE IS NOW I-SHARE
If you’ve used the Parkland Catalog to look up books, CDs, DVDs, etc. in our library collection, you may be familiar with the idea of "All ILCSO Libraries." This term indicates a group of academic libraries throughout the state which use the same catalog system Parkland does, allowing you to directly search their collections and request materials from these libraries--all through the same computer interface you use to search at Parkland.
Due to a major reorganization of the academic library consortia in Illinois, this service will be changing its name to "I-Share." During the transition, you may see the new and old terms side by side, and see some changes to the catalog interface. Once the new interface is complete, you will simply see the phrase "I-Share Libraries" enabling you to search this larger group of library collections.
For additional details see the CARLI site.

DONATIONS WELCOME
We would like to publicly thank the people who donate their gently used books, DVDs, and music CDS to Parkland Library. We receive a goodly amount of titles every year as a result of this generosity and kindness. We use the Library’s collection development policy to guide our decision on which titles to keep, and items that are not added to the collection are sold through book sales, passed along to other libraries, or given away free at the end of the year. The Library Gifts Policy is available online and donations can be dropped off any time at the Service Desk. Arrangements can also be made for pick up from Parkland campus office.
Another way you can give to the Library is by making a financial donation to the Library Endowment Fund through the College Foundation. If you are interested in becoming a financial supporter, please contact Carl R. Meyer, Executive Director, at 217/373-3789, Julie McGown, Assistant Director, at 217/351-2458 at the College Foundation, or Anna Maria Watkin, Library Director at 217/351/2365.  Further information can be found at the Foundation's webpage.

ART GALLERY EXHIBIT
Parkland Art Gallery will be exhibiting Microcosms in Memory: Recent Works by Sunkoo Yuh. This solo exhibit is a selection of sculptural ceramic work that uncovers personal meaning through the depiction of the mundane in both Korean and American culture. Exploring universal issues such as life and death, Korean artist Sunkoo Yuh proves that making art may be a quest in search of broad meanings or answers, expressed through personal awareness and common experiences of daily life.
The exhibition runs from November 3 through December 8 and is co-sponsored by the Library and the Department of English and Critical Studies. The reception is on Thursday, November 17th from 6-8 p.m. and is open to the public.

ART GALLERY ANNEX AT THE LIBRARY
The Parkland Art Gallery and Parkland Library have joined together to provide an additional exhibit space for artwork on campus. Parkland Art Gallery Annex at the Library will offer an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and alumni to showcase their art. The Annex’s committee will review submissions and the selected artists will have the responsibility to install the artwork. This experience will allow students to gain professional experience in exhibiting their work, provide faculty and staff with the means to exhibit their talents and promote their programs, and help alumni gain exposure within the community and serve as role models for future graduates. The Art Gallery Annex will expose our thriving arts community to more of what we have at Parkland and within District 505. Ultimately this venue will provide a forum to discuss ideas, encourage critical thinking, and recognize all of art’s cultural value. Artists may be currently enrolled at Parkland College, graduates of Parkland, or a current faculty or staff member. Original two-dimensional artwork in all media is eligible. An application form is available online and in the Library and Art Gallery
