So Many Books at Your Fingertips

Did you know that Parkland Library has over 120,000 items in its collection and our patrons now have access to the collections of 64 other academic libraries in Illinois?  With over 8 million titles to choose from, the chance of NOT finding what you need is remarkably slim.  We've been a member of the I-Share catalog (see page 6) in the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) since July 2004 and the feedback received so far from students, faculty and staff has been overwhelmingly positive. Materials are shipped and received several times a week through the state-wide delivery service and the demand for library materials (and interest in reading, we hope) continues to rise.

Try using the online catalog to virtually browse the shelves, broaden a search with the linked subject headings, and view a MARC record if you are so inclined.  I encourage you to take advantage of this marvelously rich collection and discover (or continue to use) the online catalog to request materials. Your requested items will be available to you for check out at Parkland Library.  Use My Account to see what you have, when it's due and if you have any fees or blocks.  Best of all, you can actually avoid those pesky late fees and overdue bills by checking your account frequently and renewing items prior to the due date.  Library account management is now more patron-driven, accessible, and easier to use.  Tell us what you think by using the online suggestion form or fill out a suggestion card next time you visit the Library.

Happy reading!
