Not So Long Ago

 
Nearly forty years ago, in March 1965, civil-rights activists marched for three days from Selma, Alabama, to the state capitol in Montgomery to demand their voting rights.  There is much more to their story, and you can discover more about it at Parkland Library:

The route from Selma to the state capitol was declared a National Historic Trail in 2003.  Combined with visits to the National Voting Rights Museum and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, this is an enlightening tour of American history.  The National Register of Historic Places also maintains a travel itinerary if you're interested in learning more about these places in our nation's history.
