| Are you
someone who is interested in improving your research and Internet
searching skills? Does researching papers for your classes
leave you puzzled? Are you a member of Parkland's faculty or
staff who would like to know more about the Library's many
resources? Parkland Library may have the answers that will help you
decipher the challenging but wonderful world of information resources ..... LAS
111.
Created by librarian Raeann
Dossett,
LAS 111, "Information Literacy," will give you the
opportunity to explore traditional print resources as well as the
many electronic resources available
through Parkland Library's webpage. You will be instructed on
how to access a variety of information resources, as well as how to
evaluate information and think critically about issues related to
life in the information age. This course is an excellent
preparation for your other classes that require college-level
research.
Two sections of this one-credit
hour course are listed in the Spring Class Schedule under the
"Liberal Arts and Sciences" heading. Offered at
different times on different days in the Library's electronic
classroom, students may be able to fit one or the other into their
schedules. Additionally, one section of LAS 111 is linked to a
section of CCS (Critical
Comprehension Skills) 099. A counselor or
adviser can give you details and help you to sign up. The
syllabus for LAS 111 is available online at http://www.parkland.edu/library/LAS111/syllabus.pdf
