Printing -
In an effort to conserve paper and save money, Parkland College has implemented a print program in its open computer labs that limits the number of pages printed in a download.
Each day, hundreds of sheets of paper are printed on the Parkland campus. A large number of these pages end up in the garbage or recycling bins.  Like gas prices, the costs of paper, toner, printers, and support staff to maintain the printers are increasing.
If your print-job is lengthy and does not print, see a librarian at the Information Desk or a lab monitor in the Lab/Classroom.

High School Visits
Parkland Library may have seemed a bit busier than usual on February 6 and 10 and March 3.  English classes from Monticello High School, Judah Christian School, and the High School of Saint Thomas More visited those days to do research and use materials available at our Library.   The Library hosted the groups in the electronic classroom (R227) and students became acquainted with the resources available at our Library.
Parkland Library welcomes scheduled visits such as these.  We see them as a great recruiting tool for the College!  Anyone wishing to schedule a visit should contact Raeann Dossett, Instruction and Outreach Librarian, at 351-2883 or rdossett@parkland.edu
.

Tax Forms -
Parkland Library has a variety of income tax forms available for you to pick up and use to file your taxes.  The forms are located near the Circulation Desk.  The 2003 editions of Ernst & Young Tax Guide and J.K. Lasser's Your Income Tax are in the reference collection.  Additionally, tax forms may be downloaded from the IRS's website at http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/

Yahoo also lists likely links for federal tax forms:  http://taxes.yahoo.com/fedforms.html  If you are looking for state forms, Yahoo links to those as well:  http://taxes.yahoo.com/stateforms.html

Free tax assistance is available at Champaign Public Library.  Call them for details at 403-2070.  Or you might try Tax Brain.com http://www.taxbrain.com/openAccess/details.asp  As a public service, TaxBrain is now offering free Federal tax preparation and filing to all American taxpayers over the age of 50 and those earning less than $12,000.  Who is eligible for this free federal service?  Taxpayers Over Age 50: If you or your spouse (on a joint return) were born on, or before, December 31, 1952 - regardless of income - your Federal income tax return will be prepared and filed with the IRS at no charge.  Also eligible are taxpayers whose income was less than $12,000, regardless of age.

Used Book Sale -
A new batch of used books has been placed on the book sale tables.  They're a bargain: hardcovers, 50-cents, and paperbacks, 25-cents.  Money from the book sales goes to purchase more material for the Library.  It's a win-win situation.  You get new books and the Library gets new material.
