and About
Frances Drone-Silvers participated in a focus group on library
automation at Lincoln Trail Libraries System, Champaign. The focus group was convened
by consultants working for the Illinois State Library to study the
cost-effectiveness and quality of the current library systems' automation
programs.
Lori Sprague recently attended the Spring Meeting for the Midwest
Archives Conference. The meeting took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Janet Wilkinson visited Lake Land College Library, Mattoon, and had the opportunity to observe their acquisitions procedures.
Virginia Stout, Gulya Fehr, Janet Wilkinson, and Nancy Bode spent a
day at College of DuPage Library, Glen Ellyn, with their Technical Services staff. They were able to meet their staff, discuss procedures,
and observe the workflow of their office.
Raeann Dossett, Frances Drone-Silvers, and
Anna Maria Watkin attended the Information Literacy
Summit at Moraine Valley Community College, Palos Hills. Sponsored by NILRC, the
summit provided a day-long opportunity for librarians to discuss and share
best practices of information literacy in community colleges. Raeann
hosted one of the round table discussions. [Photos]
Anna Maria Watkin attended National
Institute for Leadership Development (NILD) Leaders 2002 in
Eugene, Oregon. NILD provides leadership programs based upon a
philosophy of inclusivity and diversity for women and men in community
colleges. Also attending from Parkland College were Linda Hamman Moore,
Director of the Academic Development Center, and Maria Mobasseri, Department Chair,
Computer Science and Information Technology. Anna Maria also
attended the June NILRC Council of
Delegates meeting at Heartland Community College, Bloomington. She is
president-elect for FY 2003.
Steve Wachala was assistant producer of Champaign-Urbana
Theatre Company's recent production, "Steel Magnolias," at
the Parkland College Theatre. Look for Steve in front of the curtain
in CUTC's next production, "Crazy for You," at the Virginia
Theatre the end of July.
