Summer Construction Projects .....It's Our Turn |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
It is said that there are two seasons in
Illinois - winter and road construction. This leads one to wonder if this
humorous adage might also apply to summers at Parkland College. This
summer the Library is undergoing several remodeling projects that are part
of a long-range space plan. Even though we are in the midst of dusty (and
sometimes noisy) construction, the Library is open and services have not
been affected.
Included in the summer's remodeling is a new Circulation Desk that will allow more space for the Audiovisual Viewing Area. The Information Services Desk will be replaced with a more efficient arrangement, and the Reference books collection will be moved to a more convenient location. Additionally, the current Periodicals collection will be relocated to an easily accessible browsing area. We are very excited that a Library instruction classroom/computer lab is being built. This will allow our librarians to teach in a multi-media space away from the hustle and bustle of the public areas of the Library. The classroom, as planned, will be equipped with 24 computer stations, audiovisual and projection equipment, and be available as a computer lab when not scheduled for instruction.
(Click on the small photos above to see a larger image.) You'll also see new carpet, a relocated main entrance, new furniture, and new staff work areas. So, next time you come to the Library, take a look around at our functional, organized upheaval, and join us in looking forward to the completion of the first phase of improvements.
