Comment: What's with the Archives
Office? No one's there when I need them. They don't answer their
phone. It's an answering machine. What kind of service is
this? Service at their convenience. What about service at my
convenience? How about normal business hours?
Reply: Like many offices at Parkland, the Archives experiences
reduced hours during the summer. The Archives office is also
responsible for the college-wide Records Management Program. Due to
the nature of Archives/Records Management services, the staff must sometimes
leave the office to conduct business (i.e., provide advice to college
offices, deliver/pick-up materials, retrieve files and process historical
materials in the records center which is located in another part of the
campus).
The activity required of the Archives/Records
Management staff results in the use of phone mail as a beneficial tool in
order to provide the best possible service to all patrons. The staff
routinely checks phone messages, e-mail, and paper messages, offering a
timely response. It's helpful to understand that in most cases
Archives requests require research on the part of the Archives/Records
Management staff as well as the patron. If a patron is subject to time
constraints, it is always recommended that a request be made in advance via
an in-person visit, phone call, or e-mail. Appointments are always
appreciated as well.
