For Your Listening and Viewing Pleasure

Audiovisual Services, located near the Circulation Desk, has a variety of materials which students may borrow:

The music CDs have been relocated into cabinets that makes browsing the collection much easier.  Previously, patrons could browse cards that listed the contents of the CDs.  You then needed to take the card to the desk and have an employee retrieve your selection.  Now, you need only make your selections and take the CDs to the Circulation Desk and check them out.
New additions to the music CD collection include: folk music (American, as well as Eastern European, Peruvian, Pakistani), Native American music, jazz and blues (Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Preservation Hall, Bessie Smith, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald), musicals (Gypsy, 42nd Street), spirituals, National Anthems of the World, and Civil Rights songs and music from the 60s.
For a listing of the music CDs owned by Parkland Library, go to the catalog, choose "Notes" and enter "compact disc" in the search box.  Scroll down the results and you'll find an entry for over 400 matches.
The Library's feature films collection is also open for browsing.  Loosely defined, a "feature film" is a full-length entertainment film originally made for showing in a commercial theater.  For more information about feature films, see Issue 3 (July/August 2000) of Library News.
Parkland Library has recently begun acquiring DVDs.  Aside from the entertainment aspects of this format, DVDs are sometimes enhanced with more film footage than the original video ... advertising trailers, footage that was cut, interviews with directors, for instance.  Some DVDs allow you to choose the language of the dialog.  Instructors may find using DVDs useful in classroom situations because of the excellent quality of the image when the film is paused for class discussion.
For a listing of the DVDs in the Library's collection, search our catalog using the subject heading, "DVDs."
